~습니다

~습니다 is the polite verb ending. It is attached to the dictionary form of a Korean verb when the verb stem ends in a consonant.
I am in Texas.
제가 텍사스주에 있습니다.

The verb 있다 (meaning "exist") has the verb stem 있. Since this verb stem ends in a consonant, we use 습니다.
있 + 습니다 = 있습니다.
For verb stems ending in a vowel, see ~ㅂ니다.
